PERMITS AND FEES
The Lidsdale State forest is open access but stick to the tracks and obey road rules. The Turon River National Park is free access but camping fees need to be paid.
The Lidsdale State forest area is a mecca for 4WDers and dirt bike riders alike, the area is littered with great 4WD tracks including the infamous Mt Walker. You’ll need the best part of a day to explore the tracks in this area and its best to take your Hema maps with you as it can get a bit like a maze at times. Be prepared for rough terrain, water crossings and a heap of fun.
The Turon River National Park is about an hours drive west from Lithgow and this place is absolutely perfect for campers and 4WDers alike. We stayed at the Diggings camp ground on the banks of the Turon River and it is spectacular. Be prepared for plenty of easy water crossings, and a few good rocky climbs and descents on your way through the park.
